ok waiting for the bath to cool off its full but a little to hot to shrink jeans. im going for a lukewarm temp so not to loose to much of the dye. to hot and you lose the dark indigo color and to cold you freeze your ass off

What length did you start with and how did they turn out? My first pair and wash came out too short...

not fun cleaning tub, huh. did your body parts turn blue? how long did you soak? did the creases and wear lines/fading stay? I have a pair from aug. 09, ready for 1st washing. can't decide to go tub/shower/machine. good fading in certain areas, some creases and lines of wear. it NEEDS to be done soon, will post later.

for me, i did my first wash in the shower and i think the color turned out great - just the length sucks now. I was afraid the tub would take too much color out. maybe you could try the shower...

Well, i didnt jump into the tub with my jeans on but i did soak them two days ago. I was planning to wear them unshrunk for a while but i only lasted 4 days before i lost my patience and was eager to shrink them down. And shrink down did they ever - wow, these 501 STF's completely transform after a good soaking, even in cold water.
1. Before soaking my STF's(tag W33 L31, no XX, made in Haiti)the measured W was 35.0", the R outseam was 106.7cm and the L outseam was 106.4cm.
2. Soaked 'em for 22 min in cold water, inside in.
3. Layed them over the toilet to dry.
4. Post soak measurements: W - 33.3", R outseam - 100.3cm, L outseam - 100.4cm
5. Shrinkage: W - 1.7", R outseam - 2.52", L outseam - 2.36"I am delighted with the results and everything went as expected but one has to wonder if these pants are made from cotton or cardboard - man, are they stiff !(luv it!). The length is now almost perfect, they are on the short side but i like them that way and the W is still a bit big but i dont mind a looser fitting jean. The next pair i buy will be at least 1" longer and the W, 1" or 2" less. I now plan to wear them as long as possible - maybe 500+ hours, without washing(I dont think i can go the 2500+ hrs you did with your One Year Jeans, Ned! - that's quite a feat). Can't wait to start seeing those high contrast wear lines and tres cool natural fade spots!

So your length was about 2.5 inches. Mine was near 3 and are too short. I went with preshrunks but I may try again and go 3 inches larger like you did (and the label recommends) Mine are made in Mexico. Are the Haiti made ones better?

Yup scotty, the outseam (total L) shrinkage was 2.45"(avg of left and right). The inseam L shrinkage, btw, was 2.0"(avg). Your preshrunks shrunk almost 3"? What! I would imagine that there is no difference between made in Mexico and made in Haiti - I am satisfied with the quality of mine although i don't have any other pairs to reference them with.

Sorry for the confusion - my STF's shrunk more than I thought so I bought a pair of preshrunks next - and they had practically no shrinkage of course. I may get another pair of STFs soon just longer this time - +3 inches instead of +2
