   I checked out the Sheplers website today. Now most guys here aren't into prewashed jeans, but this information is interesting:

   13MWZ and 936DEN in colors stonewash and bleach are made of 15.75oz denim!! The prewash process may affect durability to some extent, but I believe these are almost as hard wearing as the rigids. Wrangler's broken twill denim is nearly indestructable, anyway.

   Wrangler does a great job with their Cowboy Cut line. No wonder Levi's has lost ground in the Western segment, as Wranglers are superiour in almost every aspect.

   Klaus,

   I remember I tore up a pair of Wranglers just for the heck of it. I had no respect for em. Guys in California only wear Levis.

   When I saw Jake Gyllenhaal into Wrangs in BBM, I had second thoughts. I ordered some pre-washed slim fit 936 Cowboy Cuts from Sheplers and have seen showing my bod off in em more and more.

   I prefer the fit of these Wrangs to 501s. They are more snug and don't bulge out at the thighs. Also, they are tougher and don't bust out in the crotch. A better work jean for sweat hog jobs.

   I still wear STF 501s. I like them when they have that skintight fit. And the bells and whistles, like the buttonfly, are better than Wrangs. My next pair jeans will be Wrangs. Haven't tried other Levis like 527s and 514s.

   Tim,

   I am an old Levi's adorer. There's nothing better than a pair of 501s. Sometimes I pick on LS&Co as I don't agree with their way to handle things nowadays, but I still love them.

   The 936s are like 70ies slims for me, I like the snug fit. Body-wise, a 13MWZ or 505 type cut fit's me best and I like jeans that have a slight taper. As long a the thigh isn't too loose.

   I love the high back pockets on Wranglers. The broken twill doesn't look as good as traditional denim, but lasts indefinetly. Levi's do have a nicer shade of indigo and don't stitch the fly in blue thread. Wrangler's zipper is rugged and never fails.

   So the point for me is....I have both brands. Lee has my thumb down as they don't sport rigids in their line.

   I don't know anything about them but I thought of it when you mentioned lee. i've never actually seen their rigids in stores but apparently they do exist.

   I'm def buying a pair of wrangs in the near future. I also want a pair of 501's that I keep dry and never shrink. The look is becoming popular in chicago i've been seeing it more and more.

   Hi Ned!

   My last jeans were a pair of "black rinse" STF 501s. These are one of the latest styles of STF 501s, not solid black, just a deeper color than the ole 501 blues. They're "hard" jeans, just the way you like em. Also, they're popular with the dudes here in San Diego. A buddy had on a pair yesterday- crisp and a skintight fit. Just the way I like my jeans.

   I keep my STF blackish 501s for formal wear. Never expect to wash the suckers. I even wear boxers under em to keep my 501s clean.

   Went on a camping trip to the back country this summer. Left my STF 501s at home and lived in my 936 Cowboy Cut Wrangs for four days. I use Wrangs for hiking and other strenuous jobs. I know that 936s are tough jeans and won't rip in the crotch like STF 501s. STF 501s get raunchy quick. This might be a good thing for guys who love their jeans beat up.

   As I'm overstocked with STF 501 blues, I use em mainly for grubby jobs, my next jeans will be 936 prewashed Wrangs.

   I realized that I made a mistake in my original post - the Wranglers do have 15.25oz denim. Sorry.

   Thanks for the link, Ned. These Lees are the equivalent of the LVC line, Wrangler has something similar. What I meant was that Lee doesn't make "ordinary", affordable rigid jeans like STFs or rigid Wranglers.

   I bought some rigid Lee bootcut jeans on ebay, the seem to be from the early 90ies (according to the labels). I had them made straight leg before washing. The waist is high as with 517s. The rivets are corroded and start to fall off, I had to replace them.
