Hello, guys and gals; I'm just a newcomer here, so make me welcome, - I'm from Armenia, Yerevan. I've read many of your comments here and decided to leave my first comment today. Sure we had not a big jeans choice here in the ex-Soviet Union, but Armenia is a bit outstanding in this group - a diaspora, having been spread all over the world, and the biggest one of the Armenian settlements is in the U.S. (over 2 millions of people) have supported their relatives and friends at the home country, sending them all the possible and impossible gift packages. It was a bit romantic - of course the Soviet propaganda, lead by the Communist Party and the KGB did a lot to prevent the so-called Western style influence, but the time did it's perfect job. Western movies, that have provided big gains to the cinemas, started to demonstrate the best Westerns in the Soviet U, and this have made a revolution. Many of us were buying Levi's , Wrangler and the Lee Rider jeans for the extremely expensive prices, but were definitely outstanding and noticeable in the mass. As for the models, I'd say a very important thing for at least, myself: the U.S. shouldn't have stopped the Levi's production in it's borders in 2003 (if I'm not mistaken), they had to make them even expensive but not to discontinue the U.S. made Levi's. To say frankly, the quality's not changed much in jeans, but is fully broken in jackets - they don't look the same aggressive and Western as before......Sure the 501 was, is and will always be N.1 for the physically well built youngsters and adults ,it's a classics - for all those, who never wears them with anything else than the Western boots, well-polished, shorts or highs, but never with those rough wheel-like boots - they'd not look different in mass. To say you more, and I do wear the Levi's since being a 7 year old year kid, I've had lot's of 505 (good in both the orange and red labels until the 2000's, when this model came very close to 550), 507, 510, 511, 527, and many others, but I'm really in love with the 517 model - it's really became even better in it's latest version, looking very cool with anything you wear at the top, great model, in one word. Besides, if you've noticed, their cloth is much heavier and rich, and the price is a bit lower...It suits with the most shoes fashions, so the 517 is excellent. But the last time I was passing by along Melrose Blvd., L.A., I've seen a craziest Levi's model in one of the jeans shops over there - unfortunately, I've forgot the model number - it's very like 517 (it's bootcut too), with the iron or copper small cups at the upper angles of the rear pockets, with no belt stitches - you'd feel yourself Charley Bronson or Clint Eastwood in it, not less, believe me. If anyone of you knows this models number, please let me know.
AS for the other brands, I prefer the Wrangler's Cowboy Cut model, which is also very effective from all points of view and is making a real concurrence to Levi's 501 model - it's the same classics and looks both aggressive and sexy. The third brand for me is Lee Riders, but those made before 1990's, when they removed the black label from the right rear pocket's left angle - thaat was a wrong step....So, boys and gals, nice to meet u, sorry for the brainwashing - Sam from Yerevan, Armenia.

Well, I got myself some rigid Wrangler 13 MWZ's from Sheplers and I gotta say that I'm disappointed. While the denim is raw and slightly heavier than the STF's, it isn't nearly as stiff. Some have described the Wrangler blue as blueberry but after the initial soak in cold water the color is more like light navy blue, lighter and more blue than the STF's. The weave of the denim is herringbone and the outside does not have the attractive white/blue lines of the STF's - the white is scattered evenly throughout and looks cheap. The thread used for the stitching is very thin so it does not stand out like the STF's and is blue over the fly flap. The way that Wrangler attaches the seams is not as elegant as Levi's. I can tolerate the high pockets- makes for a change and I do like the brass rivets and iconic Wrangler patch on the rear pockets. These jeans for some reason do gravitate up towards my natural waist, ie, very high. These are indubitably THE original cowboy jeans which is cool but the way they are put together and the design details is too unrefined for my tastes. Verdict: 6.8/10 (STF's would score a 9.7/10).

The tale of the tape:

W33 L30
Actual measurements (pre cold water soak): W 34.8" Inseam: 30.7"
Shrinkage: W : 0.7" Length overall: 1.0"
**denim is sanforized

Suprisingly the rise (post soak) on my STF's (W33 L31) is greater ; front 30.8cm, seat 40.5cm
Wrangler's rise (post soak); front 30.0cm, seat 39.5cm.

Kane, yeah that's a good idea with getting the wranglers a bit bigger I hadn't thought of it myself. I keep telling myself i'm going to get a pair and never do...it's all speculation until I actually give them a go.

Great comments! Hey, Klaus, although i grew up in Vancouver, i have relatives in Austria and i have spent some time there on holidays, over the years. In '82 my friends older brother, was really into dark indigo Levi's (not sure which model) which he bought off the rack in Graz and at the time this look somewhat bucked the trend. Later in '86 they were wearing European branded(not sure of the name) lightly stonewashed jeans, with a tapered leg and i remember thinking that the zippers on the rear pockets were the essence of cool! ha! In '88 the big deal was Diesel and i thought of importing them into Canada where they didn't exist at the time. Never got round to that, unfortunately. Btw, it was in '88 that i bought my first two pairs (1 black, 1 indigo) of Levi's 501 STF's on a shopping trip to Bellingham, WA.

How my tastes have changed, now, when it comes to denim it must be raw. And, when we're talkin jeans brands, the older and more iconic, the better. Levi's is the king by far, then Wrangler followed by Lee. However, today, Levi's is the only company , with their budget priced, 501 STF, that has the cut/style and details down pat. Wrangler's current products are only so-so and I'm not sure if Lee even makes a raw denim product anymore(pity). Up in Canada, GWG, was tops but i never owned a pair of their jeans (no raw denim) and they were often overlooked by city folk. In the UK, you've got Lee Cooper, Italy - Rifle and Japan - Edwin (I am sure there are some other long established brands that i have missed here). Of these three non American brands I would only be interested in their jeans if they very closely replicated the cut/style and details of Levi's 1947 501 jean. I can't speak for Lee Cooper and Rifle but I do know that Edwin has a pair that closely resembles the iconic Levi's model and with some welcome additions - slightly longer, bigger, lower rear pockets.

Your mention of "The Goonies" brought back memories.. Sean Astin is so cute in that movie (as are the others).

A teen-Astin movie with him in Levi's is "Toy Soldiers", which also has a lot of high-top sneakers... and Wil Wheaton! <img src="http://forums.nedsferatu.com/my-plugins/bb-smilies/default/icon_wink.gif" title=";)" class="bb_smilies" />

The rear pocket placement on the Wrangler 13MWZ rigid is too high for my tastes, the 936 Slim Fit rigid looks like it has a slightly lower rear pocket placement but i'm not sure about the slim fit part. The color of their indigo looks lighter than the STF's but this could be interesting. I do like the high waist though but you have to keep a trim figure for this cut to look it's best. I also love the Wrangler patch, with the iconic rope type lettering, on the rear pocket- Levi's has it's red tab and double arc stitching, Wrangler has that patch and W stitching - cool! The zip fly on the Wrangler's is also,IMO, more convenient but of course ya gotta love the buttons on the STF's! I'd be willing to try a pair of the 13MWZ's but i'd go a size up from my Levi's STF size to ensure the waist drops down a bit.

Hi Klaus

I like any kind of really stiff and thick raw denim like from Atelier La Durance, Edwin, Flathead, Fullcount,
Samurai, Denime, Warehouse but also all repros from Levis, Wrangler, Lee. Beside that I also really like the APC and Nudies with their extreme fading potential also like Edwin Sen.

Most important to me is, that I wear my jeans and denim jackets always in unwashed raw condition only. That means, I'll never wash my pants or jackets no matter what happens. I just use my stuff in 3 steps: First as nice office clothing, then for free activities like climbing and at the last stage for the real bad jobs out in the dirt like repairing machines, working in the forest and so on. And during the last step I don't care how filthy or stinky they are. They just have to stay outside from the living room anyway.

And I could never ever throw away any piece of denim and try to build up the largest raw denim rag collection. So if you guys like Tim or Cam or Bill have any really beaten up rag items, never throw them away. Keep them alive as long as possible, and when you really don't want them anymore, don't forget that their is a safe place in Zuerich Switzerland, where I try to rescue as many as raw denim rags as possible so that they can survive for ever.

I wish all of you a great time in your denim stuff

Ruedi

I think they are selling rigid Dickies over at Sheplers, but when I saw them, they looked rather high-waisted with a slight boot cut if the picture and my mind don't deceive me.

I'm not ready to drop a ton of cash on some ironhearts, but they sound awesome. I'd totally give them a good solid testing if they sent me a pair. (hint to anyone reading that could hook me up)

I think the 936's are what I'm looking for, I'm a skinny lil mofo (all the biking) so I'd probably be able to fit my base layer underneath them, but I'm going to at least try on the 13mwxz's. Thanks for the help guys, I'll let everyone know how it goes when I actually get enough $ to get another pair of jeans (saving every penny for moving at the moment)

Anyone heard of dickies selling jeans that aren't pre-shrunk? Their work pants seem to hold up pretty well in my experience, I still wreck them though. I just gave their site a quick look and didn't see anything. I might grab a pair of their lined jeans for the winter to stay toasty.

I would recommend rigid Wrangler 13MWZs. They are not as tight as the 936DEN Slim Fits, so you could wear a layer under them on cold days. Try them on, maybe the slims are better for your body type. I'd say the 13MWZs are perfect for bike riding as it is somehow similar to horseback riding and they were constructed for this activity.

These jeans are about $20 a pair and are almost indestructable. They are a bit different from your average pair, though, as not everybody likes the look of the broken twill weave.

I heard that Carhartt makes quality jeans, but I am not too fond of this brand and don't have any experience with it.

Ned, those ironhearts sound interesting, I read about them. I guess you'd feel like a knight wearing those 20oz. They are ridiculously expensive.

for durability and price go with dry wrangler 936's. I would be surprised if you wore them out. carhartts are also very tough but might be bulky.

ironhearts are a pair you'll own forever but you'll pay for them. they are the heaviest weight denim on the market at over 20oz (as opposed to levi's 12.5). I may save up for a pair at some point.

if you wear out jeans often i wouldn't recommend levi's 501's. I wear them out with moderate wear quicker than anyone wants.

good luck and please report back on your experiences. I'd love to hear what you discover!

Hi everyone, just registered. I ride bikes to pay rent. I was a bike messenger, but when the economy went sour, I moved on to food delivery in hopes of better pay. Point is, I ride bike a lot and it destroys my jeans. I have way too many pairs of jeans with gaping holes in the butt. Lately I've been going to discount stores and buying whatever is cheapest and fits the best, but going through jeans that I'm not super fond of as fast as toilet paper sucks.

Could one of you help me out with your extensive denim knowledge and recommend some sturdy shrink to fit jeans?

I'm looking for some shrink to fit jeans that might have a chance of holding up for at least a few months. I like a more skinny fit, it keeps the jeans out on my bike chain but I don't like them skintight, too restricting and I can't wear thermals underneath on cold days.

Really dark blue (getting close to black) would be a great color, but durability is more important. Also, they should be reasonably priced, I don't make a ton of money and don't want to drop a bunch of bills on something I'm just going to destroy.

Started out looking at levis stf. The black rinse ones sound like the perfect color for me but I've heard people calling them 'paper-thins' and that they're only mid-weight denim (12.something oz, right?) so I'm discouraged about buying a pair of those.

Heard wranglers hold up pretty well, so I'm interested in those. Heavier weight denim and the weird weave means sturdier, right? And the rigid ones will shrink to fit, right? I had a pair that seemed to hold up okay... for a while at least. Those were pre-shrunk though.

Any other suggestions? To they make kevlar reinforced jeans? I'm looking for something bulletproof. Stf Carhartts?

I have a pair of Wrangler 13MWZ that is weird. They are the first Wranglers I got, a friend brought them from Canada some 16 years ago. Never did I see a pair like this and for the interested, I made some pictures to compare this special pair with a "standard" one. So all cowboys and 13MWZ wearers might want to take a look. To make things easier, for the course of this comparison I will call the weird pair simply "Weirdo".

Just to mention the colour when new: prewashed/rinsed indigo

The first difference is that the jeans were "Made in Canada". At this time, the Wranglers still were made in the US. The inside tag (which is located on the fly for Cowboy Cut Wrangler jeans) does have all intructions in English and French. I didn't take a picture of it as it has faded too much over this period of time.

The cut:

To see the difference in cut, I folded the jeans and put them together at the waist and outseam on top of another pair of 13MWZs (I used my black chocolate 13MWZs as they are 30/30, sorry for that, but my indigo 13MWZs are of a different size). You can see that Weirdo's rise is much higher and the seat is narrower. To me it's almost like a hybrid between 13MWZs, 936DENs and a womens cut.

Here is another picture, this time with a blue, standard pair on top of Weirdo. Have a look at the saddle, Weirdo has the typical slim fit style, straight saddle, the standard pair has the V-shaped saddle common on regular fit jeans.

The fabric:

Wrangler Cowboy Cut jeans have a different type of denim (most of them, there are some prewashed colours with a diagonal denim weave) - the "broken twill". It was invented to prevent the leg twisting of the usual, diagonal denim weave. It looks like a zig-zag pattern and was once dubbed "Wrandam" or "Wrangom", one of the two, I'm not sure which. Weirdo does have a traditional weave (on top, standard broken twill pair is the pair between desk and Weirdo).

Minor details:

The neolite back pocket patch is different - Weirdo has the patch usually used on boot cut Cowboy Cut models. (Weirdo on the right)

Weirdo has a different pocket stitching, you can see the "W" has the diamond stitch as Levi's has in their arcuate while the standard 13MWZs are stitched with single needles.

Weirdo has rivets with "wrangler wrangler" stamped onto them in a round pattern, usually rivets are blank.

The small, black Wrangler tag on the saddle seam was different on Weirdo (missing by now) - it had the classic Wrangler font used on other Wrangler jeans (e.g. Rugged Wear) as opposed to the Cowboy Cut's "ropey" font.

Weirdo's waist button has "Wrangler Wrangler" on it, with the words parted by silhouettes of horses. As on the rivets and pocket patch, the font is the classic one. 13MWZs do have the "ropey" font on the waist button.

The inseam:

Cowboy Cut jeans do have flat inseams to prevent uncomfortable pressure on the inner thigh when being in the saddle. Weirdo's inseam is the usual double felled inseam found on a lot of jeans. (standard 13MWZ on the left)

I hope this has been interesting to some of you. If anybody does know about the Weirdo pair, please post your information. I doubt these are women's jeans, as the seat is too slim and the waist is cut too straight, but I might be wrong as I don't know much about lady's Wranglers. They simply might be irregular jeans.

Klaus,

Thanks for your comments. I was glancing at the latest edition of "Men's Health" magazine yesterday. It has a full length pic of Jason Bateman on the cover attired in snug buttonfly blues, not 501s. On the inside contents page there is a note. It reads, " A man's real best friend are his blue jeans." Then, it tells you to "flip" the cover to get a breakdown of latest jeans styles. I think you'd agree that nothing beats a pair of hot jeans. You can always count on your jeans. Seems we aren't alone.

By flipping the cover, you get an alternative cover with a guy into jeans. Besides the $100 plus ads for jeans inside the magazine, there was a full page ad for L/S with a hunk showing his bubble butt into new crisp 501 blues.

My fav jeans are any pair I'm currently wearing. Today it's the faded pair of STF 501s I picked up for $7 at the local thrift shop. I can't describe the hot patina, natural fade of these 501s. Nice tite fit too. They are museum quality.

That isn't to say that I don't also love brand new rigid unwashed STF 501s. These are popular around here. I also find I'm into my Wrangler 936 slim fit Cowboy Cuts more and more. I prefer the fit of the Wrangs and they're tougher, but don't have all the "bells and whistles" of the buttonfly 501s. Also own some American Eagles, a bit on the loose side.

Of course the majority in this forum is into STFs, and so am I. In my opinion, LS&Co's 501 STFs are the only original jeans. They started it all. It's really amazing how this great product survived essentially unchange over such a long period of time.

However, I do like jeans/denim in general and do like other styles and brands, too. For me, jeans have always been an American product. Therefore, I prefer the Big Three (Levi's, Lee, Wrangler). Coming to think of it, I do not own any other brands except one pair of Guess jeans (I'm still looking for the screen accurate version of Back to the Future) and two custom made jeans. I am not interested in other brands, but that doesn't mean there aren't other jeans that couldn't tempt me.

I love rigid jeans. The look is classic, and it fascinates me when looking at a pair of faded jeans to think of how differently they looked when they were new and starchy. Every now and then I take all my pairs out of the closet and inspect them. I love stonewashed jeans, too. From a purist's point of view this may be despicable, but that's the way I am. As long as they finish has an even wash (no artifical whiskers and stuff). I grew up with them and loved them, there were no dark indigo washes available in the late 80ies/early 90ies in Austria.

I'm not very much into "coloured" (twill) jeans. Jeans are blue to me, the twill version simply don't have the look. There are/were coloured denim jeans (the new STFs, for example), but as I said, jeans are blue.

There are the Vintage lines, each of the Big Three has them. I once had the 1901 501XX model. But when talking about jeans I usually have styles in mind which the average Joe can afford.

Fit-wise, a regular fit suits my body most. This would be 505 or 13MWZ territory. I don't know the "new" 505s, I heard they are too baggy. I only know the 90ies/late 80ies cut (slightly tapered), they fit me well. I had a look at the Lee regular fit jeans, they are reasonably priced and the fit looks good to me. What I like about them (as well as Wrangler's Cowboy Cut jeans) are the high back pockets. Who wants the back pocket on the thigh? That's a downside of Levi's 505s, the pockets are way too low.

The '93 501 model has a great fit for me. The leg opening isn't too big, this model has a slight taper. The new ones are straight.

13MWZs are good, the thigh could be a little slimmer. A perfect fit for my body could be a mixture of them with the 936DEN slim fit style. Wrangler's indigo color doesn't look as "classy" as LS&Co's and the broken twill denim weave doesn't have the classic denim look, these are slight downsides for me. What I do like are the colored jeans from this style, here the bwoken twill weave does it for me.

I haven't tried Wrangler Rugged Wear jeans, but their regular fit style might be worth a try.

One thing that bothers me a lot recently are labels, trademarks and such stuff. When looking at clothes I almost get the feeling of looking at advertisments. So on some jeans I do remove them, this works well on rigid jeans as there will be no sign there was something sewn onto them after one or two washings. I quite like the look of "naked" back pockets, too, so sometimes I remove the stitching. Of course I do have unaltered jeans as well, I just like variety.

I realized that I made a mistake in my original post - the Wranglers do have 15.25oz denim. Sorry.

Thanks for the link, Ned. These Lees are the equivalent of the LVC line, Wrangler has something similar. What I meant was that Lee doesn't make "ordinary", affordable rigid jeans like STFs or rigid Wranglers.

I bought some rigid Lee bootcut jeans on ebay, the seem to be from the early 90ies (according to the labels). I had them made straight leg before washing. The waist is high as with 517s. The rivets are corroded and start to fall off, I had to replace them.

Hi Ned!

My last jeans were a pair of "black rinse" STF 501s. These are one of the latest styles of STF 501s, not solid black, just a deeper color than the ole 501 blues. They're "hard" jeans, just the way you like em. Also, they're popular with the dudes here in San Diego. A buddy had on a pair yesterday- crisp and a skintight fit. Just the way I like my jeans.

I keep my STF blackish 501s for formal wear. Never expect to wash the suckers. I even wear boxers under em to keep my 501s clean.

Went on a camping trip to the back country this summer. Left my STF 501s at home and lived in my 936 Cowboy Cut Wrangs for four days. I use Wrangs for hiking and other strenuous jobs. I know that 936s are tough jeans and won't rip in the crotch like STF 501s. STF 501s get raunchy quick. This might be a good thing for guys who love their jeans beat up.

As I'm overstocked with STF 501 blues, I use em mainly for grubby jobs, my next jeans will be 936 prewashed Wrangs.

I'm def buying a pair of wrangs in the near future. I also want a pair of 501's that I keep dry and never shrink. The look is becoming popular in chicago i've been seeing it more and more.

Tim,

I am an old Levi's adorer. There's nothing better than a pair of 501s. Sometimes I pick on LS&Co as I don't agree with their way to handle things nowadays, but I still love them.

The 936s are like 70ies slims for me, I like the snug fit. Body-wise, a 13MWZ or 505 type cut fit's me best and I like jeans that have a slight taper. As long a the thigh isn't too loose.

I love the high back pockets on Wranglers. The broken twill doesn't look as good as traditional denim, but lasts indefinetly. Levi's do have a nicer shade of indigo and don't stitch the fly in blue thread. Wrangler's zipper is rugged and never fails.

So the point for me is....I have both brands. Lee has my thumb down as they don't sport rigids in their line.

Klaus,

I remember I tore up a pair of Wranglers just for the heck of it. I had no respect for em. Guys in California only wear Levis.

When I saw Jake Gyllenhaal into Wrangs in BBM, I had second thoughts. I ordered some pre-washed slim fit 936 Cowboy Cuts from Sheplers and have seen showing my bod off in em more and more.

I prefer the fit of these Wrangs to 501s. They are more snug and don't bulge out at the thighs. Also, they are tougher and don't bust out in the crotch. A better work jean for sweat hog jobs.

I still wear STF 501s. I like them when they have that skintight fit. And the bells and whistles, like the buttonfly, are better than Wrangs. My next pair jeans will be Wrangs. Haven't tried other Levis like 527s and 514s.

Thanks, Klaus! I beg to differ with you on Rebel Without a Cause. Jimmy Dean wears plain Wrangler type jeans (but not Wrangs) under his windbreaker jacket. The "toughs" who challenge him to a knife fight near Griffith Park observatory in LA are all into 501 indigo Levis. This was enough for Californy school boys to beg their parents to buy em Levis and wear blue jeans to school. In California, still, most public schools don't have "uniforms" and guys can show up in torn jeans.

Before Heath Ledger died, his 501s and Jake Gyllenhaal's 936 Wrangs were auctioned off. Both wore 34W X 36L jeans. Heath didn't wear the same 501s for 20 years. It just appears that way. He and Jake had several pairs of "distressed" jeans. Heath changes into a new pair of dark blue 501s for the Thanksgiving scene. The folks who own these Levis and Wrangs made a good investment.

OK, I don't want to forget "Into The Wild", Sean Penn's film about a young college grad who, instead of becoming a stock broker, cashes out his bank accounts and sets off on a journey that takes him across the USA. Based on a true story, and set in the 1970's, the guy, played by Emile Hirsch, wears 501 blues. As his money runs out, his Levis get more and more grubby. He lives the life of a hobo as he climbs onto trains. He ends up in Alaska living in an abandoned bus. By this time his 501s must reek. To top it off he kills a moose for food and gets blood all over his torn 501s. As the real character left a photo of himself wearing tan khakis and standing beside the bus, so Emile wears khakis for this shot.

"Into the Wild" and "BBM" are two great movies that aren't to be missed!

I watched "Bokeback Mountain" yesterday. Great movie! It is indeed a comparison between Levi's and Wrangler jeans. Seems LS&Co wins, as Heath wears the same pair for 20 years. Lol.

When watching films or TV shows (especially the older ones), I always check out which jeans the actors are wearing. Especially the 80ies are interesting, as stonewashed jeans were introduced, but the majority of the jeans worn still were dark indigo. Nice cuts, too.

Movies:

First Blood (1982): Sly in faded 517s, I guess.
Rambo: FB pt II (1985): Sly in tight Lees.
Cobra (1986): Sly preferred Lee jeans again.
Beverly Hills Cop parts I and II (1984, 1987): Axel F in 501s.
Fast Times At Ridgemont High (1982): Sean Penn & surfer dudes in faded STFs.
Top Gun (1986): Cruise in faded 501s.
The Goonies (1985): Sean Astin in a great Levi's dark denim combo.
The Cowboy Way (1994): Woody and Kiefer in Wranglers, of course.
Back To The Future (1985): tapered Guess in the 80ies, cuffed 501s in the 50ies.
The Wild One (1953): Brando in 501XXs.
Rebel Without A Cause (1955): Jimmy wore 501XXs.

TV shows:

Magnum, PI: Tom wore faded 505s very often.
Knight Rider: Michael liked dark slim fits.
The Fall Guy: Colt in nice jeans and denim jackets.
Beverly Hills, 90210: almost everybody wore faded 501s - made them popular in Austria.

I checked out the Sheplers website today. Now most guys here aren't into prewashed jeans, but this information is interesting:

13MWZ and 936DEN in colors stonewash and bleach are made of 15.75oz denim!! The prewash process may affect durability to some extent, but I believe these are almost as hard wearing as the rigids. Wrangler's broken twill denim is nearly indestructable, anyway.

Wrangler does a great job with their Cowboy Cut line. No wonder Levi's has lost ground in the Western segment, as Wranglers are superiour in almost every aspect.

Kevin Bacon is in super tight zip Levis. As the movie is from 1990, he must be in very shrunk 505s. A still photo shows this clearly, his bulge is on full display. This is how to sell tickets. Ward is also in tight Levis, probably also zips.

I nominate these three flicks as the best Levi/ jean movies of all time:

BADLANDS (1973). A young Martin Sheen goes on a killing spree with his girl. He's a bad guy and he lives in his 501 Levis. Sometimes just his hairy chest over his 501s. Of course, his Levi basket much in evidence. The story is set in 1959, so, it's a sort of period piece, like the two below. Yep, guys still wear 501 Levis.

ALMOST FAMOUS. Cameron Crowe, the producer and writer, based this film somewhat on his own experience as a rock star groupie in California in the 1960-1970s. While 501s were the thing in California, he puts all his guys into zip fly Levis, not a buttonfly in sight. If you want to see guys into snug 505s, this movie if for you.

BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN (2005). This drama is really all about 501 Levis versus 936 Wranglers. Heath Ledger plays Ennis, a rancher type. He hangs out in what appears to be the same pair of faded 501s during the entire 20 year time span of the film. Jake G., is Jack. Jack thinks he's a cowboy and shows his hot bod in super tight Cowboy Cut Wranglers the whole time. He moves to Texas. In case you don't get the message, cowboys and Texans wear Wranglers, ranchers and farmers wear 501s. After that movie, I'm still can't decide between Levis and Wrangs.

Are there any other good Levi/ jean films out there?

Are any "Tremors" fans here? Kevin Bacon and Fred Ward are wearing Levi's jeans in this movie. Ward's jeans are looking like 505s to me, Bacon may wear them, too. The are nice, slim looking. Bacon wears a Levi's denim jacket with a brown collar but no lining. As far as I know the lined jackets had a brown corduroy collar, so this one is interesting. I always thought it might be leather.
